Ask Quinn!

I’m an open book!

Frequently Asked Questions:

  • What is your writing process?

Like everything else, it starts with an idea. I take that idea, toss it around in my head a bit, and then give it wings to see which way it will fly. My genre is paranormal or supernatural thrillers, so I try to create ideas that will fit into that genre. I don’t use outlines, I’m more of a “fly by the seat of my pants” type of girl.

  • Where do your ideas come from?

Most of my ideas come from dreams! I keep a journal next to my bed as, more often than not, some of the most fantastic story lines come to me at 3 a.m. I don’t get a lot of sleep, but I never run out of material!

  • How many hours a day do you write?

It varies. I would love to say that I write 8 hours a day, but life tends to get in the way of creativity sometimes. During quiet times, I can write about 5,000 words in a day, but that’s not the norm. If I get in 500-1000 words a day, I consider that a good day.

  • I want to write a book! What advice can you give me?

First up, you need to read, read, read! Get a feel for how other author’s write dialog, spin webs and plant clues. Next, you need to write what you read. Think about it…if the content is not interesting to you, it won’t be interesting to anyone else. And don’t get bogged down with grammar right away. Just write. I’ve learned through trial and error that I’m most productive when I get everything down first and leave the editing for later. Otherwise, you find yourself drowning in punctuation, dangling participles, and madness! Lastly, never give up… there’s a story in all of us.
